BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS

I was born in Kirikiriroa and grew up on a small farm in Mahoenui, in the maniapoto area. I have Scottish, Welsh, English and German ancestry.

I trained as a nurse at Whitireia Polytechnic and have been nursing since 2012 with experience in oncology and renal specialities and in emergency departments. More recently I am gaining experience as practice nurse in Raetihi. I've also done heaps of other work, on farms, kitchens and hospo, support work, babysitting, early childcare.

INFLUENCES

My influences have been my parents and grandparents. Growing up I was taught to work hard, be reliable and to be kind and care for others.
I worked with some beautiful kind nurses over my career and have learnt a lot from how they communicated and supported others.

I studied Rongoā through Te Wananga O Aotearoa last year. My kaiako Naumai Williams and all of my class taught me a huge amount about Māori culture, values and tikanga and have been a massive influence on how I interact and connect with people and te taiao. I have a passion for working with plants and their medicinal uses, I'm always keen to learn from others and teach what I know.

I have interests in massage, reflexology, cooking, community spaces/gardens, music and art.

PERSONAL MILESTONES

I have struggled myself with addictions through out my life and have been in abusive partnerships, it has been a huge challenge and success for me to retrain my brain to choose differently for myself to create a life that supports and cares for me and in turn allows me to do that for others.

Many hours of meditating which has allowed me to experience how closely interwoven our minds are to our bodies and our physical health and illnesses

I have interests in protecting our environment, specifically not using chemical sprays on our precious rākau.
I had a brief stint on Raglan Community radio where I spoke about the medicinal uses, mythology and cultural significance of the plants and animals we consider 'pests'. I would love to do more on this in the future!

COMMITMENT TO DREAM MAKERS TRUST

Continue to learn from others
To be a support to those in our community
To communicate openly with others and create safe environments for people to express and learn about themselves.
